3 Sci-Hi studes win Napocor Quiz Bee
THREE students of the Tagbilaran City Science High School (TCSHS) emerged as national champions in the Quiz Bee finals Nov. 15 at the head office of the National Power Corp. (Napocor).
Fresh from the competition, the team of Katrina Logarta, Adonis Gallentes and Mary Descery Joy Bongcac, with their coach Tagaytay and principal Melchor Daniel escorted by Engr. Dionisio Abarquez, electrical maintenance superintendent and Engr. Maristela Pimentel, materials management specialist, both of the Bohol Diesel Power Plant (BDPP) called on Gov. Erico Aumentado to relay the good news.
As champion, the team romped away with P10,000 cash and an LCD projector for their school.
Aumentado congratulated the contestants and urged them to make their win a steppingstone in realizing their dreams.
High schools qualified to join the quiz were only those hosting power plants – four each in Northern Luzon, Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao regions.
The top two winners in each of the regional eliminations qualified for the finals. For Visayas, Bohol was first runner up only to the Dingle National High School , the bet of the Panay Diesel Power Plant. But it pulled the rug from under Dingle and the six other participants in the finals, and the rest, as they say, is history.
The contest forms part of the Napocor 70th Anniversary activities. It aims to contribute to the creation of a society conscious of the responsible utilization of energy resources, and to increase public awareness on Napocor’s history, economic contributions and current thrusts towards excellence in power generation.
With calculators not allowed, the contestants answered “Energy, Environment and NPC) related categories of General Information and Current Events, Mathematics, and Science and Technology.
Runners up to Bohol in the finals were the Sorsogon National High School that went home P8,000 richer, and the contestant from North Luzon that brought home P3,000.
